yeah , come spring when the ground thaws i'm going to lay some stone then some perforated pipe wrapped in fabric. Right now it's only 6-18" deep just to get me thru the winter. We didn't close until 4 dec, and it got cold immediately thereafter so i haven't had a lot of time to get stuff done.

I hear ya' on the "bank owneds" - I've had two now not go through and both were heartbreakers. The first was a 3/2 with a semi-attached extra wide, double depth 2 car garage with one RV door and extra high ceilings (lifts!), close to schools/shopping for resale value - they jerked me around forever and later sold it for $15K under my offer. The last was a 3/1 on a half acre with a detached 2 car w/office and plenty of room to expand - already looked into underground LP tanks, new heater, tankless water heater, redoing the kitchen, and an LP backup generator (we get blackouts in the winter around here frequently, and after spending 2½ days in the dark last winter I didn't want an all electric house any longer than necessary).
Want to close on something by April - maybe I'm being too picky but I really don't want to move again after this.

Nate - I hope to not need a sump pump, but i did think of that.
Steve - Yeah - we waited almost 5 months for an answer. Had "preapproval" but took them another 8 or 9 weeks to generate the letter so we could close. Infrickin'sane. You'll find something - just dont buy a short sale. Or in your offer put something like "Bank approval within 10 business days" so that you have an answer quickly, or you dont. That way you dont have to wait forever for nothing.
Okay, car related question. I have a hawker genesis battery in the car behind the pass seat. Was fine until it got cold - it is on the tender right now, and shows full charge but wont fire the car. You think it's the battery just shot or the battery just doesn't do well in the cold?

I've had that same situation where the charger indicates "fully charged" but reality indicates otherwise. Sometimes it's been a battery discharged to the point that a charger can't bring it back, but an alternator charge will. Other times the battery is just toast. Batteries can be weird sometimes - that's my answer when I don't understand what's going on.demonfire wrote:Okay, car related question. Friend of mine said that those are worthless in the cold - and it's been cold. I just need to warm the car up so i can change the oil for her winter oil change that sees all of zero miles. I might grab the deep cycle optima i use for my trolling motor and charge that then just use that...
I'll wait until it's somewhat warmer to see if the battery has any reserve capacity before i buy a braille battery or something. Been spending sooo much money on the new house i dont know if i can afford to buy anything for my XR in the off season.

Okay, new question. Finally got my car fired after putting a different battery in (and then charging it). Car has a tapping sound on fire up which goes away. Noisy lifter? The tapping is present during first fire for a minute or so. Not obnoxious, but present. My fear is rod bearing.
Of course, now at least i can swap a motor indoors...
The tapping sound gets quieter as the car heats up. It then goes away. It comes back a little when you snap the throttle open, but only for a second.
Sounds like it's coming from the number one cyl - this is the same one i had a noisy lifter last season but i haven't had problems for a while. I had to replace some valve seals and had a sound from the lifter since.
Thoughts?

yeah, after a few minutes of running later the next day, it's definitely a lifter. number one intake if my ears are correct.

Have more progress but not many more pictures. Will update probably this weekend. Just a quick cell phone picture of an actual car part that came in today.
Cosworth turbine housing for my t3. Garrett part, 48 AR
To the left of that is a DSM wastegate actuator (11psi, stock is 10psi so that's cool) - it only has 4k on it.

New aluminum "shorty" radiator should be in today. Going to relocate the oil cooler above the radiator so it's not in front of my intercooler. Factory radiator has plastic end tanks. Now, i need to find a fan solution. Have some fans from my 02 zx3 that might work... but they are heavy. the silicone intakes 10" fans are pretty inexpensive and light tho... and this car doesn't see snow or rain or anything anymore...
Anyone know a place that can custom machine me a pulley for my alternator? I need the diameter turned down 20% to make up for the rediculous essy underdrive pulley.

Hey Ray,
Do you have to use a center mount header to be able to use that cosworth housing, it looks a little long for a stock mount header.

Ray- You might want to look into the dual fan setup from a V6 Contour/FWD Cougar, although (thinking as I type), they may be too tall for a shorty rad. Here's the specs....demonfire wrote:Now, i need to find a fan solution.

A little tight for my blood. I'm working on getting the turbo a little lower about an 1" or 2" and then moving it forward about an 1" so that I can get a 6" radius in stead of a 3" radius, trying to get the exhaust gases out as fast as possible.
What would you think of putting the turbo at a 20 degree angle downwards to get a better/longer radius. From what I have read "back pressure " is bad for a turbo but because we have a cars and we have tight engine compartments it's hard to get your exhaust as free as possible.
So every bend makes backpressure and the tighter the bend the more backpressure and so on and so on. I might be over thinking this but because it an autocross XR only, I want to see what I can get away with.
