I agree that the sample size is too small even for the student t-test. The previous MPG value is based on about a dozen tanks of fuel recorded over a period of about one month. The car gets used for one thing only - commuting to work; a commute which varies extremely little in its conditions (never stop and go, a total of two traffic lights and two stop signs going each way with 60 miles continuous highway each direction with light traffic volume... other than the fact that I blow 2 hours a day behind the wheel, I've got an enviable commute among commuters).
Tank #1 with no J3 chip showed the 3rd lowest fuel mileage out of the last dozen tanks. Tank #2 with no J3 chip showed the lowest fuel mileage out of the last dozen tanks. I'm willing to bet that the fuel mileage difference estimate I've got right now is pretty darn close to where it will be after I get a statistically significant number of data points with the J3 chip out.

Absolutely-- that's been discussed here-- tried it myself on my last car, and there was a noticeable improvement, as much of my driving here is freeway.
Will be using an 8UA on my current car shortly-- don't know if it shares the higher Open Loop cutoff like the PK, but we'll see.
This is my car, and these are my people!

It does not, since the 8UA cars used a A4LD and thus cruise at about the same RPM as the T-5 cars. That said, over the years people have reported better mileage with the 8UA vs. the LA3 - it seems the timing is a bit more agressive and fueling a bit more lean.
Moved, actually. Well, I am but the family is still back in Ohio. Been in CT for two months now working on establishing a landing pad for the rest of the Anglin family. The dish? Grayson and I decided to better serve out east coast customers, we set up a satellite warehouse in Connecticut.
