Decided to change the appearance a little after a jetta bumper fell into my lap.

1" OD .120 wall DOM tubing, stand off on same material with some C channel, TIG welded to fit factory bumper mount location. Also did a quick piece of angle to mark out center mount for the bumper. Sounds quick, but was a lot of measuring, etc to get it right.

Image

This was painted satin black after it was all said and done.

Test fitting before making brackets to attach factory 4 stud xr4ti bumper mounts to jetta bumper...

Image

Couple boring hours later of test fitting / sanding / and we're ready for prime! The front grill had some chips so i decided to respray this as well, while i was at it.

Image

And two coats of diamond white later...

Image

Will buff out this weekend so long as the paint is hard enough, then do another fit, then mount the obligatory air dam.

You can bring the paint code to NAPA and get single stage made up :)

Hit up the junkyard and pick up a lip. But i dont think they would drop as low as how you have it now.

Not that Ray would get one, but the exterior section has a lot of bumper lips

Garg, i kind of like a few of those bumpers on there! :cheers

Of course, if i got one, who in their right mind would want a color matched to a merkur color, modded to fit a merkur, jetta bumper?! :beats head

Haven't been spending too much time on the car recently or at all this off season. Time is ticking away. First event in 4 weeks.

But, here are a couple of images. I am hoping to get the fuel pump swapped over tomorrow to the Walbro unit.

Then maybe next weekend do a little welding. Anyway.

VW lights in, and working. I am also going to write a how to for here, for how to bypass the hazard switch and maintain working signal lamps. Actually it would be super easy to put in a different switch to have working hazards as well...

Anyway. Working VW lights.

Walbro fuel pump is in. Thanks mc2racing yet again!

Took connector from rail pump, spliced into some 12ga wiring, put thru the grommet for the tank pump, wrapped in some 3m rubber protectant tape, some heat shrink, etc...

Image

Walbro Pump installed on the factory piece. Haven't yet clamped it down. Wiring thru a grommet, was then sealed with "seal all" sealant and heat shrink.

Image

Sealed and shrunk.
Image

While the tank was out i resprayed the straps (which were in remarkable shape) and brushed out the tank, then sprayed that as well. Figured... what the hell, let's have some fun.

Sure, it took nearly as long as the pump install, but it was definitely fun :)
