Re: NEW Merkur part of the week
New remanufactured Garrett T3 turbos for the 2.3T are now available at www.merkurdepot.com > 2.3 Turbo Ford Engine Parts
These are genuine Garrett turbos with the more desireable .63 SVO exhaust housing. Bolt-in swap for the stock turbo with the smaller .48 exhaust housing. We have a very small handful available for $499 with NO core charge. Other vendors are offering these remanufactured turbos with the smaller stock .48 housing for $650 and up. Plus they have $100 and up core charges! Here is a great opportunity to get an upgrade in the exhaust housing and save at least $250 off of what everyone else charges. Qtys are limited!
Turbosmart Manual Boost Controller :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190637969533
These are high quality boost control valves from Austraila with an excellent detent system for adjusting boost. Kind of like the Gillis valve we all know and love...except its more like an ultra refined version of the Gillis valve. Again, lower price than anyone else on this brand new part.

Lots of new parts in the works as well; new aluminum radiators due out at the end of March, new replacement wastegate actuators due out the end of this month (Feb.) , we have even found a gauge we really like (previously only available only in the UK ) that reads in BAR and we have contracted the manufacturer to make an exclusive run in PSI for us.

This is FANTASTIC! Takes the place of the MBC? Replaceable parts? This one deserves a nomination for Part of the Year, at the very least.

Re: NEW Merkur part of the week
Thanks John.
: You can only get 20-21 psi out of it so if you want more boost than that you'll still need to run a MBC. However, those wanting to go from stock boost to 16, 17, 18 , 19 , 20 this will do it for you without having to buy a boost controller.

Re: NEW Merkur part of the week
... and is this done by giving it more preload, or is there an adjustment for the spring?

But setting/adjusting it can't be as easy as on an MBC....can it?
YMMV

No, only because you can't adjust it as easily when the motor is hot and it's usually harder to reach.Ed Lijewski wrote:But setting/adjusting it can't be as easy as on an MBC....can it?

It is necessary though when moving to a outlet with a larger wastegate flapper like the Cossie housing as the spring needs to be stiffer to hold the exhaust pressure. A MBC can't overcome that, but adjustable preload can.
Having adjustable preload also makes it very easy to better dial in boost settings. Preload I've found is more consistent than a MBC, at least the Gillis when done correctly.
Collins makes some high quality stuff so I wouldn't hesitate swapping to one of these. I've had their dump valve (purchased used) on my XR for 4 years now and it's been maintenance free.

Once you get it where you want it, do you really play with it much after that?

Re: NEW Merkur part of the week
Correct, not as easy as a MBC to adjust only due to the fact it is in an awkward location on our cars. If it was right up top like a Cossie WGA, then yes it would be as easy as a MBC.Ed Lijewski wrote:But setting/adjusting it can't be as easy as on an MBC....can it?
However, the special LH and RH threaded turnbuckle we include with the adjustable rod maes adjusting this WGA easier than any other one out there due to the fact the rod can be adjusted while completely installed on the wastegate flapper pin. (other adjustable WGAs require you remove the rod end off the pin, then adjust, the re-attach the rod end, repeat as necessary, etc.)

I don't, no. It did take a lot of playing to get it correct on my setup.John Brennan wrote:Once you get it where you want it, do you really play with it much after that?

Finally, a WGA we'd want to show off!
One thought I had was that bad WGA's should be used as sources for the bracket, rather than disabling good ones and losing good used parts from the community inventory.
