DSP to SM build

Post by DSPXR4ti »

I'm starting up my Street mod build on my DSP XR4ti. Because I'm going to work up to the big dollar items, I'm starting off with things that are going to be the biggest bang for the buck. The goal is to have a 350 hps 2340 lbs XR4ti for the SM class, the reasoning for the weight thing is because I won't have to worry over how much the car's weigh.

Here's a list with pic's to follow.

Engine:
A237 cam
shortly radiator
cosworth intercooler 2x4
moving alternator to the r/f of the motor

Body:
used doors from a 3dr cosworth (bought these 4 years ago) just a little lighter but every thing counts.
F/G cosworth front grill
cosworth hood vents

Suspension:

Rear coil over shocks

Brakes:
Wilwood front and rear brakes (used kit, we will see how it works)

Transmission:
T5 from a 5.0 mustang 2.95 1st, 1.94 2nd.
(looking for a T5 from a V6 mustang 3.35 1st, 1.99 2nd) anyone with one please let me know.

There are some things I'm not listing yet because there not here yet and I'm checking with the rules first before I spend the money in the wrong places. It's taking about 4 year to collect all this stuff.

Wish list:

Bo-ports Aluminum big valve head
GN compressor housing & a cosworth exhaust housing
penske struts and shock (next year)
Bo-ports intakes

If I don't participate I'll at least be there to watch. I've been going a different direction with my car, so it won't be anywhere near competitive in SM. Especially if I don't get tires and a LSD before the event.

Ok so... this was a lot harder then i thought it was going to be.

First off we moved so all my parts were box up bad move On my part, other thing was I should stayed with my list. So first off I will thank all those who sold me parts, they really work out.

Just got the engine running today, I have a question for you all. With the A237 cam do you have a rich idle? any ideas, as soon as the idle gets up to 1500+ it really wants to go, can't for this weekends event.

Pic's coming.

I'm curious to know what you did for the front penske struts? Are these custom units you had fabbed up?

With the overlap in the a237, it will show it as idling rich. These engine do tend to idle smoother if they are run a little rich at idle, like around 14.0-14.2:1.

Did you ever do any turbo upgrades?

Can't speak for an aftermarket cam, but with the stock cam I've noticed this too. I have my idle at 15-16:1 in a feeble attempt to decrease fuel consumption and it sounds choppy and angry

The penske are custom received a real deal because he didn't think he could do it, hope to get them installed next month.

This what I thought, I need to go to the dyno anyways, it does feel good to get her running again.

The only thing I've done is put the coswoth exhuast housing on, plans are the GN compressure housing but I think I'm going to wait until next year.

I'm having to wait on alot more mods than expected just because I have no parts, pay for or I have deposit but no parts yet, should be interesting when all the parts are installed. Cutting the hood today for the vents this should be fun.

Weight right now now is 2425lbs, trying to get to the 2340lbs by next year, little bit here and there. Big one's are aluminum head/esslinger intake 43lbs, TSS rear STA's 20lbs, CF hood 20lbs, that should be very close.

Ben,
Have you done anything for oil control? Oil pan, accusump, windage tray, etc...? After seeing a number of other engines (not the 2.3) fail in autocross and road course on slicks due to oil starvation, it got me thinking about mine. I still have the stock oil pan on mine, but I haven't made the switch to r-comps yet. Since you have been running yours for a few years, I figured you would be the best person to ask.

I need to get the weight down on my car. I know removing the rear seats, changing the front seats for aluminum, fiberglass, or CF, and getting rid of the sunroof will make a big difference. I know there are more things I can swap for lighter items as well. Mine was 2770lbs when I weighed it a few years back.

All I have is a baffled oil pan and your right at one of the AAS events there was a very fast right hand sweeper into a very hard braking point to which I spun a bearing, from then on I've had a baffled oil pan.
