Re: DSP to SM build
What tire and wheel size are you running again? 245/35R18 18x8 and 285/30R18 18x9? Do you happen to know the offset or backspacing?
You see Hoosier has released a 275/35R17?

Re: DSP to SM build
First off, were in the Hell! did you see that?, I don't see it at the tire rack site and of course they bring it on after I put my T5 in with 1.99 2nd gear ratio, oh well, just changing the tire size is only a 2 mph change, the other thing is if Hoosier has just released this tire size it can't be used at the National's, because for a tire to be eligible on or before April.whitelx wrote:What tire and wheel size are you running again? 245/35R18 18x8 and 285/30R18 18x9? Nope I'm running 17x9 in the front and 18x9 in the rear, base on the weight of my XR (below the 2540 mark) I have to run a tire at 275 or smaller, so if this 275 35 17 is out and people are talking about it, I may put it on the XR but for right now my tire size is 225 40 17 in the front and 255 35 18 in the rear, it's a pretty good balance.

Re: DSP to SM build
wow, I didn't realize you were running the 225/40R17 up front. That's what I have been considering for the 17x8s I have along with the 245/40R17 (need to run at least a 5mm spacer to clear the strut though).
Hoosier just released the size. It is listed on their website, but Tirerack doesn't have it listed yet. I was hoping they would use the 225/40R17 carcass to make the 275 tire for the sub 24" height, but they used the 245/40R17 carcass for a 24.7" height.
I really like the look of those flares on your car. I have been tossing around the idea of adding them to my car, or doing away with the cladding completely, welding the holes, and welding in some e46 BMW flares. I've been trying to balance function and appearance, but it's tough to do on a budget. Every time I see your pictures I sway closer to the bolt-on flares.

Ben, curious why you went to the right side for the exhaust and not the left like I see almost every other single tip XR exhaust?

It was just the straightest the exhaust will go, I mean the header is on the right side, why go all... the way over to the left side of the XR, plus keeping all the weight over to right side of the XR like Esteban said what little it may be.hEaT wrote:Ben, curious why you went to the right side for the exhaust and not the left like I see almost every other single tip XR exhaust?
Well I'm going to the SCCA forums and asked about the tire but I'm pretty sure we can't use it this year.

I think the factory crossed over to keep it away from the fuel filler.DSPXR4ti wrote:It was just the straightest the exhaust will go, I mean the header is on the right side, why go all... the way over to the left side of the XR, plus keeping all the weight over to right side of the XR like Esteban said...hEaT wrote:Ben, curious why you went to the right side for the exhaust and not the left like I see almost every other single tip XR exhaust?

The fuel filter is on the drivers side, not the pass side.

Re: DSP to SM build
but your filler is on the passenger side. And the drain for the filler area dumps out right where a tailpipe would reside.Ray wrote:The fuel filter is on the drivers side, not the pass side.
I plan on running a autox only exhaust consisting of a smaller muffler and a side exit just after the passenger side door. I just need to make sure I can meet the sound limit. The exhaust I have on it now is pretty damn heavy.

I've only once or twice put gas in at an autocross while running in 26 years of autocrossing, something I'm not worried about.whitelx wrote:I plan on running a autox only exhaust consisting of a smaller muffler and a side exit just after the passenger side door. I've thought about titanium exhaust system but at 1750.00 for maybe 20lbs is not my cut of tea. How much can yours weigh?

Re: DSP to SM build
My side exit is probably 30lbs lighter than the 3" exhaust i removed from my car. My only form of sound control is a 3" thru core 4" OD 15" case stainless resonator. Car is not loud at all. I pass with flying colors 90dB/50'. Hell, i pass it with no resonator at all and just an open downpipe.
Remove the turbo, or go with a large external gate, then maybe...
And i apologize for misreading "Filler" as "Filter"
i was seriously confused for a second there.

No worries, Ray-- you're deep into what you do, and we all benefit from it, but it's easy to forget sometimes that the car was designed primarily as a passenger car, with safety and practical daily-use features, even though it makes such a good racer!

XR at the last autocross, don't have my front aero on yet but I will say this for you other autocrosser out there, anymore then -2.5 camber with 1/16 toe out and it just won't turn in right or push. Kind of an eye opening weekend for me.
