does it not have a map sensor attached? I am wondering if the software is any different because it should have the ability to adjust fuel and timing based on boost and RPM.

Yes it does. I believe the vacuum line running too it popped off. That is why I ran lean and melted stuff. Here is a photo

Got a full weekend this last weekend. So close to being able to start it.


3" Down Pipe. To 2.5" mated to borla I had already. It seemed to be the simpliest. All V-banded together, Hopefully this is something I wont have to worry about for some time.


Also removed all the vacuum lines and replaced them with silicone and a new block.

This is how I did the coolant line from the intake. Also added in a analog temperature sensor. More on that later.

In this one you can see the Big VAM I got in, as well as the DV position I chose.

This is the ground block I made. I will tity up the wires once I know everything is running.

Lastly this blurry picture shows the power steering cooler I chose

- Lower radiator hose
Some small rewiring (grounds for fans and such)
Few little vacuum lines for oe cluster boost gauge
DV tubing
Some gauge wiring for oil pressure and water temp
Air filter and VAM brace
Add a little more oil
Trans fluid
Coolant
Put stuff like the lights and grill back in
A little heat shield for the O2 sensor wiring
Then tune it
Possibly new spark plug wires

Thanks for the complements on the exhaust. Like anything if I had to do it again it would have been a lot nicer. I made the mistake of using the filler rod I had on hand and you can tell. Next time I'll use something smaller and not the rather large 1/16" rod. the other issue I had was getting it fixtured to weld. Since it is not magnetic and I didn't take the time to set up a proper jig so many of the welds where out of position. The cuts worked out kinda by luck really. The only real pain in the ass was welding the v-band on under the car without removing the exhaust on the stuff that was already there. All in all it took around 2-3 hours start to finish.

The power steering cooler was from Jegs. Super cheap, be sure you get extra line if your going to do it like I did. I got lucky and thought of that before hand so I didn't get held up. My old one was leaking all over the place, nice 30 minute upgrade.

Looks very nice. Your "crap" job could teach a lot on proper welding. Very nicely done even if you're not pleased with it.

Question: Why leave the 2.5" bottle neck in the exhaust? Since you were building a new one, you might as well have gone 3" all the way back. I realize you had the existing Borla, but still. -=o)

Fair question.
The original intent was to dump the exhaust out behind the passenger. That didn't quite pan out as stuff started getting a little expensive with buying another stainless muffler and all the ovalized tubing I wanted. By brother mentioned just going back to what I had and it ended up being very cheap in the end. I think I spent around 100 on the downpipe and less than that on tubing, V-bands, and flex coupling. Not to mention the added bonus of knocking it out completely in 3 hours or so. Right now, it set up pretty easy to go from the last 2.5" V-band to a dump of some kind if I decide to go back to the original idea.
I also think the gases will have cooled down enough to utilized a 2.5" without too many issues. Response from the stock turbo is what I need. I may be wrong, still better than what I had.

Wants wrong with that, I thought about that set up when I was first putting my DSP XR together, now that I've said that you'll be pulling air from the ground, the hottest air out there it may not help with over all cooling unless he has hood vents.nathankershaw wrote:I hope you haven't answered this already.

It seems less than ideal but works surprisingly well. The charge pipe is almost too hot to hold your hand on, then the pipe to the throttle body feels less than ambient. Remember intercoolers work with expansion to cool the air as well.
Thinking about gold foil wrapping the pipe next too the valve cover. It gets hot in that area. The biggest thing I dont like is the super long charge pipes in general. Running up and down all over the place.

Seems to me there's no scooping going on there, rather the air dam helps to pull air downward through the IC.
