Re: DSP to SM build
Went to and AAS event with a 3rd gear 95 mph slalom with a very hard braking into a 135* left turn before the chain link fence, I spun my XR there, adjusted the rear brakes, 2 clicks of rear rebound, all good now.
Found out I was running only 15 lbs of boost for the last 4 events, I usually do this to start the year off because everyone is doing new stuff so no sence stressing the motor. Slowly turning it up every event from here on.
All in all very good event in trying out very fast slalom, next AAS event in the next 2 weeks. Tires will be better ( new hooisers suck ) . Will be putting in the flanges and the 10,000 rpm clutch, maybe try the aluminum drive shaft to see if I have any vibrations.
The great thing is the 650 hps EVO that I'm having fun with is running the new BFG's, could be very fast and from here on out, they maybe hard to beat because of the BFG's not getting over heated like they did with the Hooisers but it was only a 70 deg day, so lets see what happen when it's 90 deg plus.
Just down loading this weekends event, sorry for the long rant.

As soon as I find a vid. i'll post it.Ray wrote:95mph slalom?! how far apart were the cones? That's insane!
The cones are spaced 50 feet apart but with an offset of almost a car width. It was a 5 cone slalom but with a very fast start. So envision drag strip start into a small 45* turn, into another larger 45* turn and now in 2nd gear already, never lifting, now into the first slalom cone shifting into 3rd gear, then alittle after the 5th slalom cone you get on the brakes
Brakes worked great but on that first lap I spun alittle after the 5th slalom cone, it could have been a bad down shift but after I adjusted the rear brakes it never happen again.
There's no new shiny bits, the biggest change to the XR was removing the engines wire harness and changing the front brakes.

What transmission/diff/RPM limit are you running to get 95mph 3rd gear? That slalom sounds like a blast!

Re: DSP to SM build
The trans is a T5 3.35 1st, 1.99 2nd, 1.33 3rd. So base on my 255 35 18 tires at 7000 rpm's 1st is 42.xx, 2nd is 71.xx, 3rd 107.xx mph. Stock rear diff 3.64 but with an eaton LSD.Firefox wrote:What transmission/diff/RPM limit are you running to get 95mph 3rd gear? That slalom sounds like a blast!

Well after watching this Vid. I was talking to myself again and thought I would check some things. In XS 7 wrote:Wow Ben, That's awesome, very fast, I like it,thanks for posting the vid.
First off was the waste gate, I thought I bought a 16 to 18 lbs waste gate. You hope that what you buy is what you get, I didn't..I got a 7 lbs waste gate. New one coming on wed. make sure I test before I put in car.
2nd, base on the vid. I need to get out of the turns better with my XR, so changing the trans to get my 2nd gear to 68 mph instead of 72 mph.
The BFG tires maybe in my future, would be 2 extra inches of tire on the ground but would need a co-driver.

Re: DSP to SM build
So the last event at Oakland was fun because of the fixed fuel pump problems.
Went back to the 1352-199 T5 to see how it felt, I like it and made up 1.100 sec on the EVO from the last event, still .900 back but now that the power back have to relearn how it felt (it's been 6 weeks). The great thing is the front brakes don't lock up now under very, very hard braking (black top surface at Oakland) that was always a big problem after about 20 runs with the hoosier's, was the front brake lock up that is. Next thing is putting in more toe in the rear and try the Eaton 3.92 rear diff., or at the lease have it prepared for the next Lotus club event so I can try it in the afternoon and compare times.
The goal is to make up the .900 before the National's and I feel I can now, with some small changes this could be fun to see the look on the face of the EVO driver.
The problem I'm having now is a small vibration with the drive shaft (I hope), I have a 2 piece drive shaft now but getting a 1 piece drive shaft from "Lou's performance parts" To try.

What are your ratios in the transmission Ben?

1352-199, 3.35 1st, 1.99 2nd, 1.33 3rd, which go's to 72 mph at 7000 rpm's
and have tried
1352-168, 3.50 1st, 2.14 2nd, 1.39 3rd, which go's to 68 mph at 7000 rpm's but 3rd gear go's to 104 mph, were as with the 1352-199 T5 and the 3.92 diff. 3rd gear will be at 99 mph so the up shift will be better. Just to shift more could be losing time there.
1352-155, 3.97 1st, 2.34 2nd, 1.43 3rd
1352-080, 3.35 1st, 2.08 2nd, 1.38 3rd, I think this T5 trans would be the best FMPOV.
I just don't want to be in between gears but also don't want to lose drive out of the turns, or the little bog coming out of the turns, every little bit counts.

Re: DSP to SM build
Well Ray,
Thinking about the T5's and the gear ratios AGAIN! I have made my final changes to the XR in hopes to close in the gap, now just drive it to get used to the way it feels before the National's.
I did some more changes, Upped the valve spring rates
Like I said before installing the Eaton in the 3.92 diff. which will change the mph from 72 to 68 mph.
Going to a one piece drive. From Lou's performance parts.
Set the rear toe to toe in just a little to see how it feels.
Going to try the new BFG R1S tires.

Re: DSP to SM build
Questions:
You seem to change setups almost every weekend. The track layout always changes so how are you determining if a suspension setup and gear ratio are best? Are you just comparing your times against the others in the class? Im sure the XR will shine in one type of layout but be a dog in another.
I don't think the racers at a regional level go through as much trouble. But nationals is a totally different ball game.

I've always done this every year and your right, if I go to the AAS events they are very fast, if you go to an Norcal UFO events they are very tight/slow, SCCA has events that are really easy and fast, Lotus club events you get 12 runs a day but slow. The thing is the turns, slaloms, transition at the National level are all about the same so when I come home I down load the event and ask myself how about that turn and so on & so on.
Like the last event, Sharp right hander leading to a very fast straight onto a very fast 45* right hander, very hard on the Brakes in to a very slow 90* right hander in to a fast but tightens left hander.
Break it down in my mind: Felt a little slow coming out over steer on exit of the turn the very slow right hander, I came out to slow, part my driving and part the car. Again a fast turns into over steer on exit losing time. I put more into all this but you get the just.
If you rest, people will pass you by. I just lost my job so I have time and a friend has a S load of part that I can try so why not. The good thing is, I have someone to chase.
