Re: DSP to SM build
So going to the AAS event this weekend that had one of those 90's + slalom, the crazy thing was I just had 2 weeks off from work and the kids are in camps from 9 to 4pm last week, anyways I just finished a lot of stuff on the XR.
Adjusted the dump valve (possibly leaking under boost)
Adjusted boost to 20 lbs
Adjusted AFP to 48 lbs and it moved the AFR to 13.5 a idle from 11.9
installed new valve spring from bo-port because I just wanted about a 20% or so of increase valve spring PSI
Corner weighted to make sure she all good.
Adjusted front toe (just making sure it was right, just a little off)
Change the rear spring rate
Adjusted right rear camber/toe (it was off ??)
Looking at X-ing out the rear of the XR with a camera mount/harness bar set up
Driver seat rails were bent, lucky had a new/used one, feels much better.
New aluminum one piece Drive shaft
Just built my 3.91 Eaton but don't have any time to install before loading up for tomorrows event
So it should be fun.

Re: DSP to SM build
So this AAS event went great, lots of very fast transitions which uncover a little handling problem "off throttle oversteer" $#!* now what? Well thinking back to 2009's setup, remembering it was 7 & 14 but that was with a full tank of gas and the whole car was 350 lbs heavier, so to help the XR not pivot on the nose, I added 8 clicks of rebound. Happy, Happy, I'm glad I found this now because it gives me 2 months to get my feeling back with the XR.
Ray; Bro...! start believing in yourself, what makes you think that anyone can drive your XR any better? The good thing about the SFR is we have ALOT! of National Champion to work off of, Pick a/the leading driver for your Class or not but someone faster and in your head call him out, Now go get him, This is what I do and I LIVE FOR IT!!!!
Anyways now .700 behind the 700 hps EVO, in 2 months I will have a win over him. I only need 1!

Re: DSP to SM build
Well with the upcoming SCCA event this weekend, still getting a little fuel problem, I have to run over a half a tank of gas, never had this problem before and caring over an extra 65 lbs of gas is not right. Well the first thing I'm doing is the modifying the gas tank (show pic later) to keep the gas from sloshing back and forth.
Changing the right rear shock, I think it's having problem internally. Right hand turns a little lose, left hand turns is great feel, jack up the XR on the right rear wheel went to full droop and the last inch it just dropped, not right, I even took out the shock and it worked great. Going to change it out and send it in to be rebuilt.
Making a C-type harness bar, yes it will add 15 lbs but the safety of me and anybody riding in my car is high on my list.

Re: DSP to SM build
I'm curious as to what you are planning inside the tank. I've been thinking the same now that you have our car on a diet. Looking forward to pics, as well of the harness bar you make.
Something that, and let me stress, JUST for autocross, no collision protection, just a bar to hold harnesses to hold you in the seat. Can it be made out of aluminum?
What seats do you run? I've found our deep bucket does well.

Re: DSP to SM build
Mine will be made out of chrome moly steel and base on where I'm bolting the harness bar to (the OEM seat belt holes) it should hold me in my seat if the XR hit something or something hit me. I wouldn't have done this but what had happen at events in the last 2 years.catapultkid wrote:Looking forward to pics, as well of the harness bar you make.

I run CF racing seat that sit very low in the XR, but it is adjustable for taller or smaller drivers.

Re: DSP to SM build
So just got back from the SCCA event, very fun but it was VERY...! fast.
AND! read this EVO 38.023, XR 38.035, EVO 38.060, EVO 38.085 was crazy close and I still have a miss fire but was that close very, very Happy!.
A little miss fire, rear brakes locking up a bit, power steering a bit slow. So all is good, 3 weeks before the next event a lot to do.

Re: DSP to SM build
Wow Ben, impressed. Thinking the awd cars loose a bit of there advantage on faster courses? No hole shots so to speak, or was it more of a very accurate setup car and driver?

Re: DSP to SM build
Let me ask you if you think the AWD cars are better at a point and shoot type courses? maybe!? but I thought at the time that the 80 foot between cones slalom, yes very big between cones but by the 3rd cone, they had to slow down a lot (I wish we could do the whole ghost car thing) there was also an off set gate that I just lifted but the EVO had to hit the brakes. From what I know EVO's 2950 lbs +, Nissan GTR's 3200 lbs + and those very fast transitions are going to kill them, HeHeHe....HaHaHa....catapultkid wrote:Wow Ben, impressed. Have 3 weeks before the next event, so lots of little things before the next event.

Re: DSP to SM build
Is the evo driver friendly enough for you to smack your gps on his car for a run or two to take a look at where his time is being made up?
From my limited experience the awd cars suck a slow corners (they tend to push and are heavy as noted, act like a FWD car really) however coming out of the turns they can make up so much time to the next corner. Where I would think your car could stand out is, as mentioned, the fast transitions.
What changes before the next event?

Re: DSP to SM build
I hear you on what they look like out on course, if you look at that Vid I posted look at the push that EVO has and the National's has a lot of fast transition, slaloms, slaloms, slaloms so bad for big fat cars.catapultkid wrote:Is the evo driver friendly enough for you to smack your gps on his car for a run or two to take a look at where his time is being made up?

What changes before the next event?
Clean up Exhaust
Check grounds to ECU
Order new coil pack
Check timing marks
oil change
Flip F/tires
1lbs lighter flanges install
Check alignment again just making sure
install new seat rails
C-type harness bar built and installed
install smaller gas tank
now that I have an aluminum drive shaft, install alum drive shaft, WAPITA
check left front wheel bearing, very little play but just to make sure
remake my camber/caster plates
install the 3.91 Eaton and try it, not sold on it right now
Start building a new motor just in case
work on some front aero bits
readjust front bumper
power steering fluid change
spark plug wires
plugs
change Battery from the 28 lbs one to the 6 lbs one
I know there's 1 or 2 things I'm forgetting but with 3 weeks off, I'm going to try and get everything done so all I have to do is drive & just tinker.

No but I can use a Jerico Trans, but the T5 works great, no reason to spend 4250.00 on a trans. Thank you though on the WEB site now I can read up what they do and then at the event ask them "Why didn't you use this trans/diff." just to get in there heads a little.

Re: DSP to SM build
And I think I'm busy working away at this POS. That is a bunch of stuff to do with a lot of little details.
I got the LCAs swapped in, the track in noticeably wider as well as a bump in camber. Where you running without the camber plates this last event or have you been playing around with them?
I'm excited to see all the changes unfold.

I saw your post about the LCA's, why did you replace the inner tie rods?catapultkid wrote: I got the LCAs swapped in, the track in noticeably wider as well as a bump in camber. Where you running without the camber plates this last event or have you been playing around with them?
.
Trying different things you never know what you come up with, it's the long sweeping turns that I have a little push, working on it.
