If replacing the fitting doesn't work I may take you up on it.
Thanks

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Got to play with a few things with weekend. Not much XR work. I did get a set of ground control camber plates in that I picked up for cheap, as well as new SVT rotors with the mk5 gti pads. Calipers are already at the shop. This will be my next idea of a big brake kit. Reasoning, as I have a mk5 gti as a daily and those brakes stop that 3200lb car well, lots of pad options and they are robust calipers. Custom adaptors will be used obviously. If anyone is interested LMK.

All those boxes are full of items that need to be put back on or are upgrades for next season. I'm running out of time...

This project is coming along nicely however. Got the large hinges attached.

Also started helping my father with his barn find C2 vette! Here is where we found it.

It was a rainy day so I hope to get better photos soon. This car is sweet. We have started the carb rebuild already. Hopefully we can also get this ready sometime this season. He wants to learn to autox it.

Sweet 'Vette find-- that's my favorite of the older models. Wouldn't mind seeing an occasional progress report on that in the least!
Curious as to why the GTi calipers instead of the tried-and-true PBR's, which use the same rotor, and are dual-piston vs. what appears to be a single-piston setup here (if I'm right about that).

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Thanks. I will try to post stuff up on it every now and then. I wouldn't expect Dad to work super fast on it so we will see. I'm hoping this next season before the farm life catches up to him during planting and harvesting.
I'm going with the MK5 Gti calipers because I know they work well. I have the PBR setup now on the merkur and am really not impressed. The piston area changed too much I think. This time around I've gone a lot of research on what calipers, what master cylinder bore and rotor size should "in theory" work very well together. The setup is almost identical on the SVT focus and mk5 gti both of which have great stopping power from the factory.

Same here. I would be willing to swap for certain. I am considering going to legacy GT equipment, myself.

Those hinges do carry enormous loads as it is on a large piece of agricultural equipment. Thanks for the compliments, it means a lot.

Well, that's a seed drill, so are you fabricating an extra wide drill? If so, you must farm a lot of acres. Just curious as I'm a farmer myself but I'm more livestock then crops.catapultkid wrote:Those hinges do carry enormous loads as it is on a large piece of agricultural equipment. Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Correct, apparently they don't make a no till drill big enough so they paid me to design and construct something bigger. We do maybe 1500-2000 acres in planting every year with multiple crops and it must still go down a two lane road between sections of the farm. Therefore it needs to shrink.Elmer wrote:Well, that's a seed drill, so are you fabricating an extra wide drill? If so, you must farm a lot of acres. Car hasn't got much attention since I've been working on another project over the last few months. This weekend I turned these pretty pieces of steel into a little system.

Here are all the other bits. The thick stuff is 1" plate, the smaller is 3/4" plate to give you a perspective.

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Successful weekend on the merkur. I've been meaning to trying this new brake idea I've had. Here goes.
MkV Gti calipers and pads
SVT focus rotors (almost 12")
'89 merkur master cylinder (larger bore than the '85)
On paper it should be a great setup, but I won't know until I drive it.
This weekend I got a moment to try to fit everything up. Here is the pad and rotor.

Size comparison between the previous 11" rotor from a SVT Contour

Made some adapters out of 3/8" bar stock

Bolted up. Same banjo bolts and crush washers where used as the mustang calipers needed. (Lucked out completely)

Outside

Wheel clears! I've Only got about .020" or so between the slider and the wheel's inside pattern so a small spacer may be required. However these pads are only going to wear down, so that gap is getting larger all the time.

Thanks and enjoy!
BTW C2 also got a bath this weekend before entering the paint shop.

Glad to see it all come together so easily.
If all works good, start pumping out those adapters!
