Not to be a nay sayer, but if that resonator has those nibs protruding into flow, don't use it. Get a thru core perforated resonator and run one of those instead. They flow much, much better.
You can score one like a magnapack for around 90 in full stainless.

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Ray. Thanks for the tip. I'll see how this goes (it was laying around for free)
Ok soooo the weekend from hell in nut shell. Here goes (still super sleepy)
Got the turbo back from evergreen. (all stock + thrust seals and various other upgraded internals)

Finial assembly.

Built an exhaust.

Painted and heat wrapped next to the exhaust. Here are a couple shots.

Things that worked well.
1. Bled the brakes and everything looks good/stops well.
2. Doesn't get hot at idle. Sits a 190-195F. Very happy about this as the little swirl pot seems to be doing the trick.
3. Sounds good with the new exhaust
4. It drives!
After that the problems started creeping in and you know how it goes. When you are tired everything is more difficult.
1. 2 big oil leaks one cam and the other the front main and pan (if you ever have done one of these you'll understand the flustration)
2. The new megasquirt program (PiMP BETA version) I'm running had some hiccups in my settings. Took in the neighborhood of hours to get some of those found, set up correctly and working.
3. Had a bad surge that would start coming into play after some time idling. It was running too lean and first spent way too long looking for a vaccuum leak.
4. One of the tires I mounted by hand didn't seat correctly which creates a bad wobble going down the road.
5. When loading the car on a trailer it stalled. Then wouldn't start. Thinking it was out of gas I went to town and filled two 5 gallon jugs. It only took maybe 4.5 gallons to fill the tank completely. Then it started right up. I think it is a bad TFI and it had cooled down enough that it started when I got back... I'm not sure though. I really hope if it is, it will rear its head again before too long so I can swap it with certainty.
Still needing to do before the weekend.
1. Balance tires get that one to seat.
2. A real alignment
3. Need hubcentric rings on all the wheels
4. Complete tune for boost
5. Fan control with MS if applicable.
6. idle settings need to be smoothed out
7. Battery is flat so I'll have to figure something out there.
8. Wire the front blinkers
Anyways it is sitting in it's new home.

RE: Hunting idle. Where is your IAT sensor currently located? It could be heatsoak. I have mine in the cold side pipe and I only have the issue on hot restarts where the car can heatsoak. If it's located in the manifold though, it will get hot just sitting while charge temps aren't increasing. These causes the mixture to lean out. Check into the CLT Air Den table:

RE: Fan control - I know Ray is using the MS1 for Fan Control. If the Microsquirt used in the PiMP kits has the output, it should be relatively easy to set up. Run the output to a relay and wire in.
My pan leaks and I've yet to fix it. It sucks haha

Thanks for the compliments Ben. I looks better inside and out than last year, but does need a bath.
hEat: Yes you are correct I have my IAT sensor just before the throttle body. It was nice a cool in the shop when I had the hunting idle and the temperature sensor was also cool (hood up, fans blowing, chilly outside) so I don't think it is heat soak. However you are correct in the fact it was lean, once richened up a bit on the VE table it seemed to stabilize. I hear just a little hint of it now.

Fan activation I believe is just another settings mistake I have made. I did a little research over lunch. Thanks!

Sounds good! And you should be fine with the sensor there since it's isolated from the intake manifold. You'd have a lot more issues if it was tapped into the stock location like the TurboCoupe.

On a whim, I checked the runout last night on the front hubs.
.015" out on the passenger side since my wife had the accident, .005" or so on the driver. I think I need to put in new hubs.

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
I use some silicone. However I was told by evergreen that silicone is the most common cause of turbo failure. I piece of it will get into the journal bearings of the turbo and ruin it. I think this was the cause of my last failure.xrdoc wrote:Has anyone ever used a FIPG for the oil pan? like a honda bond or something, considering how much a pain this is to do wouldn't it be best to use something like that and never have to worry bout it again? Are you talking about using Hondabond instead of a gasket or with a gasket?

Who did your driveshaft? I've found a couple things to make a good 2 pc 1310 driveshaft, but would like to see if there is an already successful build.
