DOHC Duratec 2.3 head?

Post by baileau »

I've noticed alot of threads on DOHC heads for the 2.3T (everything from v-8 heads to volvo heads). But being a newbie to the Merkur world I haven't seen any one mention the DOHC head that comes on the new ford rangers. Just out of curiousity is there a possibiltiy that this head might work or did Ford they change the oil and coolant passages on the new 2.3 NAs enough to make this impossible?
Larger T3 from automatic wi e-6 manifold, aluminium radiator(was in the car when I bought it). To do: Exhaust, Big VAM, Intercooler, PE computer(already have), brakes, suspension, possibly megasquirt

Go HERE

Type in "DOHC", "Ranger head", etc into the Keywords box.

Hit "search"

Perhaps this thread should just be deleted before things get out of hand. Let's just try to be nice. Sound like a deal, everybody?

No need to delete the thread. That way it'll show up in the search.

The answer is NO, the head wont work.

Oh and I was so hoping that someone whould tell him to ask that question on turboford (when it comes back up).

baileau, don't worry about the question, it's one that almost all of us have asked ourselves when we first became interested in the 2.3T.

Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside....

I'm thinking we should have a new "policy" that we should all agree on. We'd all just say something like this...

"Wow, I never realized Ford had a new 2.3 motor in the Ranger for the past four years." "Could you investigate if it will work and get back to us with your findings?"

But we all gotta stick together....

The answer is YES it will work!! Yesser it WILL (But only with the block it was mated to) 8)
No, it will not with the Block from the XR (or SVO, Turbo Coupe).

See that was easy. Next question!

the problem with this is that his thread title is incomplete. he already knew he was going to specifically ask about the 2.3 duratec ranger motor. his title would need to read "dohc ranger 2.3 head?" in order to actually be of good use. although DOHC head is better than "will this head work?"

Thing is, the Duratec I4 motor isn't found only in the Ranger - it's also in the Focus, Mazda3, Mazda6, Milan, Fusion, and I'm sure some others that I'm not thinking of. I don't think I could fit all the applications in the subject line!

I guess the only surprising part is why nobody asks...

"Will the DOHC head from the new Ford Fusion fit on my Lima block?" "They're both 2.3 motors from Ford, so I bet they do."
