38mm SSautocrap wastegate is on! I opted to dump the fumes back into the downpipe to keep noise levels down... the welds aren't the prettiest, but they're strong. Still not that bad for my flux-core birdshit welder, though. :)

I also fitted a radiator from a 4.0 Explorer... I tried to mount it as high as possible since the cap is mounted right on the endtank... not sure if it will work as planned, but I'll give it a shot. The pressure cap is a little higher than the highest wet point in the engine, so I think it should be alright...? :?

Good to see progress - no reason this car can't be in Carlisle in June. 8)

But I'll ask these questions any way....

What's up with dumping the gate right in at the elbow at a 90-degree angle? I guess you'll have plenty of room for improvement on v2.0. :P

What was the reason for the Explorer rad?

Does the Holset "like" a bigger oil feed for some reason?

I wanted all the wastegate plumbing to be as compact as possible... and frankly, I'm not TOO concerned with the 90° intersection - I believe this wastegate should be large enough to prevent creep even with a restriction like that in the dump tube.
DPDISXR4Ti wrote:What was the reason for the Explorer rad?
It's huge, aluminum, cheap, and widely available. My stock radiator was trashed when I went in the ditch, I gave my parts car radiator to QuirkyMerk, and I sold my Saab radiator to a woman at work who had crashed her Saab and needed a replacement. :o If the Exploder radiator doesn't work well, I'll be replacing it with the SSautochrome RS500 replica (and their matching intercooler.) :?

It had a 3/8 tube going into it in the stock application... the only 3/8 inverted flare adapter I could find for the inlet was for -6AN... if it's too much flow, I guess I'll end up blowing out the seals and having to rebuild the center section, in which case I'll also make a -4AN line. I've got materials for a -10AN return line in the mail right now. :)

That Exploder rad looks like it's taller but narrower than stock, right? That might come in handy if you're looking to do a FMIC and you need clearance for the pipes on either side.

Are you skipping a coolant tank? If so, and you want to make sure the air is purged from the coolant, you can go with my red-neck swirl tank solution - a $5 HVAC vent valve from Home Depot, plumbed in-line on one of the heater core lines. It's now been road & track-tested!

Hmmm, yea, looking again at the placement of that WG, looks like you may have some issues plumbing in a line to the heater core. Are you going to skip heat entirely? Dude, you practically live on the North Pole!

I only see a 1-wire O2 sensor in the pics. :?

FWIW, I have my Bosch WB sensor bunged-in about 8" down on the DP and have never had it error out.

Yeah, that's just a stock replacement oxygen sensor for mockup. I was planning on using the LM-1, but maybe I'll have to put a little more thought into its placement. :? Worst case scenario, I'll plug this hole and put a second bung further down the line.

I also took a couple of pictures of the headlight brackets necessary for the euro lights, since I haven't really seen them posted anywhere:

Got my timing tensioner finished up... and switched from the Stealth 3.0 SOHC belt to a 4G63 belt.

Get'n er done! :)

What's that timing belt tensioner from?

Is the water pump pulley from the EDIS Ranger?

Belt tensioner is stock Volvo with one side cut off and a piece of steel welded to it. Thankfully, the pulley itself is replaceable, so I won't have to modify another tensioner plate when this wears out. :)

Yeah, that's the EDIS w/p pulley. I'm still not 100% sure I'll be using it... we'll see when I get a serp pulley on my alternator and stuff. :?

Okay, but the bearing itself isn't stock Volvo DOHC. Hell, it's made in Japan! Don't ask why, but I have two of the Volvo bearings hear in my office.
