I "get it" - the street racing he's talking about is stupid. We're clearly not talking about the same thing.

couple pics, and a brief story.

around a foot of intrusion.

Story:

I was driving to visit my grandmother to show her wedding photos (had just gotten married.) Two days prior had put 4 coats of zaino on the car, and swapped the snow tires on that morning. Hadn't driven the car since i cleaned it. Was headed thru a green light when a WRX that was *gasp* racing* ran the light in the breakdown lane, hitting my car side on at around 45-50mph. luckily for me, i was on the crest of the road, the car was fairly light on its tires, and was thrown about 50-60 ft, over a curb, etc.

flatbed guy said "wow, thank god your wife wasn't in the passenger seat." yeah, well, she was. and thank god she was fairly okay.

so yeah, i've got a thing against street racing morons. on a deserted road in the country is one thing, speeding around traffic trying to kill my wife is another.

Yep, I recall now seeing Demon's accident pics about a year ago and deciding that the Focus would be a good car for my sister. I seem to recall too, that the 4-door is actually much better at absorbing a side impact than the hatch, but clearly this one protected the occupants pretty well.

Ironically, shortly after my sister got the Focus, the Consumer Reports came out saying how they were downgrading most of the compact cars (such as the Focus) due to lack of side air-bags, and the risk of injury due to a side impact. Well, I know the Focus is better than the 10 year-old Contour she WAS driving, so I'll sleep at night.

With the way insurance companies are nowadays... i never wanna find out how any car is in side or frontal impact collisions...

but yes... the focus seems to be fairly safe... and I hear the XR is pretty safe as well.

I don't care what you guys say, I live my life 1/4 mile at a time. LOL.

Believe it or not.
ANY kind of Street Racing is Illegal. On the back roads, on the freeway, on the country dirt road not used since the General Lee was jumpin' it.

There is no if and's or but's about.
If you race on a dead end road where no car,kids,deer, fly were around except for a cop you Would get a ticket because it IS illegal.

I'm not saying it's legal - I'm just saying that street racing can be almost as safe as sanctioned racing when the proper conditions exist.

Regardless of the precautions taken, a trained medical staff with an ambulance will not be standing by, so it's not quite as safe.

EXACTLY! im glad that there is someone else that shares the same urges as me. after i rev the engine of my cammed 1.6l vtec with a massive folgers can exhaust pipe and "altezzas", i just get the urge to go and abort the nearest pregnant woman with a rusty lawnmower blade because racing and violence are exactly the same.

i understand people's general problem with street racing. its not exactly the smart thing to do. i go to the local street races and just watch. its hilarious how slow these cars are... and its also funny how many beat up civics there are. like... broken body kits and all... its pitiful that they believe that they have to prove something by bombing down the streets in their heaps of crap. its really sad.

and my first post pertained to the show this thread was talking about.

Has anyone figured out yet that this thread is retarded? Do the street racers really think they'll convince everyone that what they are doing is just fine? Do the safety guys really think they'll impact anyone's choices when it comes to street racing?

Ah yes, urges. Lemmings have those too, and so do moths when they get near 300 watt halogen bulbs. Let's not think, let's have urges. This thread really isn't about street racing, it's about whether or not you follow thought that also calculates consequences or just urges.

Racing and running red lights have absolutely NO CORRELATION. Running red lights is dangerous whether you are racing or not. Just because you race, doesn't mean that you're going to be doing something like that.
