ahh, well in that case, you are exactly right. look at my intercooler (i have that mishimoto one, 18X12X3). the 3" inlets and outlets are on the same end, so flow mostly just goes through the top of the core. it works, but it *could* be much better by flipping one of the endtanks.
the 'cooler i REALLY wanted was 28X12X3 with 2" inoutlets, making it so i don't have to deal with reducers and such. since the core is shorter, there's less wasted space. it's basically like taking the first core, removing the core that's not being used and putting it in the airstream! mucho bueno nacho!
This really is still one of the best intercooler threads ever.
I randomly decided to come check out what was going on in the MCA forums, and lo and behold, on the first page of the XR4Ti section I see a new thread titled "intercooler" and all it says is "is the Rapido intercooler any good?"

I got it from "Frodo Baggins." Actually traded him a Miata for it. He drove it down here, then drove the Miata to Cali, where it now lives the racer's life (as a Miata should!).
The car had no IC on it when I got it, and a Porsche 944T IC is ready to go in over a Mikey shorty rad as soon as I have all the bits... just some odds and ends; piping, couplers, and some longer rad hoses. There's an Ian Potter-repinned LA3, a Dual piston BOV, and a few other goodies also swinging bats in the on-deck circle. I've made a few repairs to this and that, but mostly have simply daily-driven it over the last two years, using it as my commuter car/pickup truck with a full suite of tools, parts, and supplies for my concrete mixer and agg truck GPS and two-way radio service and installation business I do after working an 8-hour office shift as tech support for the GPS company (Trimble).
She's been a really good girl, as I drive at least fifty or sixty miles every work day, and it's only just the other day she developed a sort of nasty driveline vibration, which I've discussed elsewhere here, so until I can get some time to fix it, I'm driving my '89 Scorpio.

Since I posted in here about my SC intercooler Ive since installed a cossie 4x4 cooler and a Saab 900 Rad. I have to say that the cossie unit is pretty good from the data logs ive taken so far.

No, I'M impressed, because I thought it had 93,000 miles when I bought it, and now you're telling me it was 193,000 miles! But of course, we know that Merkurs aren't reliable...
