Does it help // am I faster? I do not honestly know, but it's more fun for me, so why not? Coming out of a corner under full boost is always fun.
What your 2nd gear go to? I would guess 63 mph or less.

I've studied the benefits of shifting to 3rd vs staying in 2nd quite a bit. The general rule is that you lose 3 tenths of a second shifting. Therefore if shifting to 3rd doesnt gain you 6 tenths your better off using the limiter. I've found that the even under these circumstances I've always had a hard time going from 3rd to 2nd in a braking zone and getting it right everytime. Likewise when tight courses run down to speeds that require you to use 1st.
The "study" was done back to back with a gps, log and two competent drivers.
The car I drove topped out at 52mph in second gear. (k20 civic with a big FD) rarely was I faster going to 3rd.
